I had this on draught at a pub in Basking Ridge, NJ. 12 oz. pour served in a goblet. It pours a hazy, golden honey color with a thin, milk-white head and wispy lacing. The nose features banana, clove, coriander, tobacco smoke, and Belgian yeast. When first sipped at draught temperature, I thought it was overly tart with lots of lemon. However, as the glass warmed I began to taste the sweetness of the banana. There is also significant spicing with coriander and clove, with a dose of pepper and slight hoppy bitterness at the finish. This ale is crisp and light with lively carbonation. With its moderate 6.0% ABV it is very easy to drink. Overall, it's a nice rendition of the classic Saison but not quite at the level of the leaders of the style. Brotherton is a quality brewer and I have no doubt they will tinker with the recipe. I wouldn't hesitate to drink Brotherton Saison again.
