Bought a case of this on sale at my local distro, the 8.4% really comes through, like a semi trailer through a house of cards. Besides that, nice roasted raisins, figs flavors come through. Not my ultimate favorite dopplebock but not bad if your looking for something to sip on a cold night. Having more a few of these proves to be a challenge.

Great companion on a cold winters night is this spezial. If you like doppelbacks you will like this one. Classic roasted malts with a hint of sweetness with plenty of lager characteristics. Drink 2 of these to guarantee yourself a good evening.

It starts off as a really nice beer. Smells of honey... the initial taste is a nice hops and barely but the aftertaste yields a really smokey, grainy, barley like flavor. I didn't enjoy the aftertaste but the high alcohol content is nicely hidden and not over-powering this brew. Lots of flavor.

Got the one gallon mini-keg version of this at a discount as my local beer shop was trying to get rid of it.
I hope it is not a year old and in past experience, these lose their carbonation quickly if you don't drink them all in one sitting or one night...
Nice chocolatey roasted doppelbock flavor which seems like there has to be some wheat in it with the soft mouth feel that I get from it...
Perfect for the cold weather months with some hearty German food or any Meats and cheese.

Deep, dark brown with a thick light brown head that dissolves into a ring. Heavily toasted malts give it a toasted whole wheat taste with a slight molasses end and clean aftertaste.
A very good doppelbock, just right for the season

11.2oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy glowing amber/mahogany with ruby hues; big creamy and fluffy khaki head that falls slowly leaving great thick retention and sticky lacing. The aromas are malt forward along with a nice amount of caramel. Dark fruits are there. The flavors follow the nose. More caramel leading the way along with some toffee. Some raisins along with some more dark fruits. Some cherries in the mix. It's on the sweeter side, but it's not cloying or over the top. Very nice malt backbone. Subtle warmth in the finish, but the alcohol is ultimately well hidden. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's extremely fluffy, slightly creamy, smooth and dangerously drinkable.

This is a solid brew. It's more or less what you would expect from the style. Solid malty goodness. It's enjoyable stuff.

This winter special pours an amazing clear and dark amber, almost mahagony color with a thick, caramel color foamy head. There is substantial lacing on the sides if the glass - this was poured from the bottle into a Teku. What is amazing with this one is how hidden the alcohol is. At an ABV of 8.4% this is certainly not a light weight, but the alcohol never gets out front and center. Always well balanced, quite light and easy drinking if you relate it to the high ABV. You will want another one, and for me personally, two is the most I will have of this excellent seasonal.

Pours a dark amber and brown color with a big creamy tan head that displays great retention.
The aroma evokes dark fruit such as prune and plum along with clove like spices. Malt aromas are toasty, bready and caramel/toffee like.
Taste is sweet overall with notes of dark fruit, caramel and toffee. It highlights full flavored bready and toasty malts along with a developing touch of chocolate. A yeasty spice balances things out and in tandem with the malts evokes spiced bread. The alcohol presence also adds spice along with sweetness. There is little to no hops bitterness.
Full bodied, smooth, creamy and with a gentle carbonation. The chewy and malt forward mouthfeel is contrasted by a finish that is clean, dry and with a touch of chocolate and alcohol linger.
A hearty Doppelbock that is full flavored. My only critique is that the sweetness and presence of dark fruit was a tad much. Beyond that, it’s a solid beer.

I like European winter lagers and they can be tough to come by, so I was pleased to be able to find this one. Nice looking, esp. the dense light tan head. Body is dark with browns and dark red.
Aroma seems largely the yeast. There is a rich maltiness laying beneath and a slight almost oxidation quality, but I don't think it's old.
Nice rich malt that is near a common bock but closer to the dopplebock it is. Quite drying and light on the dark fruits.
Nice full lager feel and perfectly carbonated lager with a rich and smooth feel.
This is not the best but quite enjoyable. I'm glad I bought it.

(330 ml brown bottle, subtitled 'Munich Specialty / DELICATOR' on back label, bottle has vague code but case showed a date of 05/2018... poured into a snifter)

L: clear, garnet-colored liquid; thick pad of loose, bouncy, off-white foam forms, slowly recedes... a few streaks of splotchy lace; thin, messy foam film remains

S: dried, stewed fruits (grape); brown leather; bold, brown bread crust; soft hints of spice and deep-toasted grain... not especially potent overall; mellow presence of medicinal booze

T: roasted, toasty grain most prominent; malt flat overall and clipped in its dry finish, little sweetness throughout, though a flash of raisiny melanoidins goes by before the midway point early on... lingering soft roasty bitterness and a faint musky earthiness; gradual build of residual spiciness

F: has a little fat to it, but on the lighter side of medium-bodied... sort of a dank, damp, lukewarm feeling left on the palate, like a bathroom after a long, hot shower... could probably mindlessly session this, but best to counteract with copius wurst and pretzel

O: this was the second bottle I tried from the six pack I purchased a week ago... this definitely has to be served at cellar temp or warmer to allow its flavors to fully express - curiously restrained in its offerings... would probably appeal most to a drinker not looking to savor a full-flavored example of the style... one of the more toast-forward, dry German import doppelbocks in memory

Pours a cloudy brown color. 2/3 inch head of an off-tan color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of sweet malt, Euro yeast, alcohol, biscuit, hint of all spice, hint of corn, and slight pale malt. Fits the style of a Doppelbock. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, Euro yeast, alcohol, biscuit, hint of all spice, hint of corn, and slight pale malt. Overall, good retention, complexity, feel, and body.

This beer pours a deep toffee tinted amber with a large off white head. The aroma features toasted nuts, sweet bread, dates, figs, brown sugar, plums, raisins - all sweet and very vivid. The flavor is much drier, with hints of caramel, nutmeg, almond, pecan, raisin, plum, date, and burnt sugar. The mouthfeel is fairly light but with just enough fullness, with soft, creamy carbonation. Overall this is an excellent beer, amazing depth and complexity, rich but dry at the same time, realy fantastic.

11.2 oz bottle, possibly dated 278?
Mahogany colored bier with a creamy beige head that never really fades below a thick foam. Malty nose with spicy hops but pretty muted overall. Sweet, malty, and rich with notes of nutty toasted grain, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, and a touch of spicy hops. Full body, pleasant carbonation, alcohol is warming but not overbearing, semi-dry finish. Good seasonal doppelbock here. Glad to try something different than the usuals from this brewery.

Pours a clear deep mahogany brown with a goodly amount of effervescence bubbling up. The pour produces 2 fingers of tan, foamy, shortlived head that leaves a ring, motes & streaks of lace with a thin surface cap & collar. Aroma is malty as expected being fresh pumpernickel, caramel, molasses, raisin, roasted nuts, with back ground hints of char & earth. Taste is sweet, toffee, brown sugar, prune & raisin, fresh pumpernickel & nuts. The sip has a peppery spiciness in the fruity, sweet potato, molasses & lightly boozy finish. Fruit & molasses mixed with a little hop bitterness & earthy char make up the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is upper end medium bodied with moderate carbonation, mouth coating with a light sandy, tongue coating creaminess, chewy into the finish with a smooth aftertaste. Very good quality for the $8.95 price I paid at Warehouse Package in Albany, Georgia.

I poured one and a half bottles into a 1/2 liter stein,a brilliant garnet infused walnut brown with a thick billowing beige colored head atop.Somewhat muted aromas with caramel and a bit of dark fruit, almost a fruit-cake like aroma.Surprisingly delicate for the style in my opinion, caramel with a tinge of star anise,a decent shot of spicy hops in the back end round out a solid palate.Again to me somewhat delicate to me wich isn't a bad thing,I really like it.

Poured a cloudy orangy-brown porter color. One inch, head withhold lacing and sweet malty nose. Drank smooth with hints of caramel and orange. Medium, nicely balanced body.

I wasn't expecting nearly as much from this beer as it delivered. Would drink/serve/recommend it again.

Poured from bottle into a snifter.

I usually dig these darker German style beers, so I had high hopes. But this one fell a bit short. To start, this has a bit of strange smell that I can best describe as maynaise like. Fortunately, the taste is a little better, but still a bit skunky as I have come to expect from beers from green glass, and also seems a bit more sweet in the finish than I would have expected for this style, making it a bit of a chore finish my 12 oz. I definitely won't be picking up any more in the future, as there are much better dark German lagers out there.

11.2 oz green bottle. A little confusion about this one as I've seen reviews describing a lighter beer than the one I have in front of me. My bottle reads 8.4% ABV and has the name "DELICATOR" on the back label.

It pours a murky, deep ruby-brown color with a giant, rocky, tan head that rises well above the lip of the glass. Took me about 5 mins to pour the entire bottle into my glass.

Aroma is a bit subdued but comprised of toasted malt and plums. Rich, sweet malt flavor with a sharp bite at the end from the hops.

Medium-full bodied with a luscious, creamy texture. Heavy sweetness that borders on cloying, but it's so clean and smooth that the sweetness avoids becoming excessive.

Tasty brew and I'm glad I didn't fall victim to the green bottle skunk monster that has plagued me in various other Hofbräu beers.

Getting an early jump on things, the style usually reserved for spring religious observances lands in the season where those deep, dark and savory flavors are most needed- the winter time.

Dark golden and with amber low lights, the somber and simmering lager builds an eggshell lather with aromas of toasted granola, candied almond, dark fruit and mulled honey. Biscuity sweet and rich with graham cracker, light port and an overall savory appeal, the beer’s initial taste is all about the malt.

Yet over the tongue, the lager shows incredible lightness without giving up on savory impressions. Date, fig and cherry follow a light marzipan vanilla spice with the foundation of bread crust and pecan remaining firm. Herbal bitterness takes an edge off of the residual sweetness and provides a minty, tea-like taste late.

Modestly full, the beer’s texture is rounded and rich, but its smoothness suggests something lighter, brighter and much more drinkable than its strength suggests. Mild simmering warmth provides a smooth spice to join the minty hops in a medium-length after glow.

Sampled back on 1/3/16. Comes in a 330ml (11.2 ounce) green bottle. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a "Blue 10" billiard flute glass.

Brew pours a mahogany in color with a thin off-white head. Some decent lacing was seen when sipped. Aroma is of malts and yeast with some spices. Taste is close to the nose with some spicy hops in the mix also with a hint of brown sugar. Pretty smooth and goes down easy with no harsh or bitterness at all. Medium-bodied with perfect carbonation. Really enjoyed this brew.
