Pours slightly hazy, gold in colour with a long lasting white fluffy head. Citrus and hops on the smell. The taste is also sweet, almost candy like, with tropical notes. Smooth mouthfeel

473 mL can from the LCBO; coded L22192BW and served slightly chilled.
Pours a hazy pale golden colour, topped with roughly an inch of foamy, creamy white head that lasts for two or three minutes. A tight collar and thin cap remain in place, with a modest ring of lace also left in its wake - looks fine so far. Grapefruit, melon and tropical fruit on the nose, with hints of hop resin, grain and lime zest. The aroma is subdued, but pleasant.
A serviceable light IPA, though its malt presence is minimal - just some hints of grain husk and dough early on. White grapefruit pithiness, canned pineapple and underripe pear, with notes of lemon and grassy hop bitterness towards the back end; the aftertaste is citrusy, but trends dry. Light-medium in body, with moderate carbonation that adds a proper crispness to this session ale's surprisingly smooth and satisfying mouthfeel. Good drinkability.
Final Grade: 3.6, an acceptable B grade. New Friends is not my favourite High Park beer, but as a session IPA I don't have any major complaints. The malt presence is lacking, and its hop flavours are nice enough - but they don't do anything to differentiate themselves from the tidal wave of similar light pale ales you can find at the LCBO these days. I'd say give it a try if you like this sort of thing, but if you're like me and have no genuine interest in session IPAs, you can give it a pass without feeling like you missed much.
