473 mL can from the LCBO; coded L241000900 and served slightly chilled. Their website mentions that this was finished on tequila barrels, a fact that seems worth mentioning on the can, too.

Pours hazy and translucent, its golden blonde-hued body topped with roughly one inch of foamy white head that is in a hurry to be somewhere else. Sixty seconds later, the surface is almost completely barren, save for an extremely thin collar. It's visually boring, but some kettle sours are like that - a more pressing issue relates to the aroma, which is also kind of dull. I'm getting lime, sure, as well as some light lactic acid notes, but not much of anything else - maybe a wisp of lemon and orange peel. No sign of tequila.

It tastes fine; the flavour profile is quite sour throughout the sip - not quite 'puckering', but not that far off, either. It starts slow, with hints of coarse grains and lemon giving way to lime zest, lime juice and faint tequila. Maybe a little bit of saltiness, but I could be imagining that because I expect it to be there. Big lactic sourness on the back end, with lime juice dissipating into a mildly citrusy aftertaste. Light in body, with aggressive carbonation that doesn't let up much during the session; feels crisp on the tongue, with good drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.61, a B grade. I can't claim to have tried scads of margarita sours, but I will say that Eat The Worm is not one of the better attempts I've come across. That's not to say that it's a total writeoff: the lime flavours are nice, and I do like that lactic acidity on the back end of the sip - together, that makes for a passable kettle sour. There's still room for improvement, however: more saltiness could help, and the tequila flavour could use more of a punch. I doubt I'd buy this again, but I wouldn't discourage others from giving it a shot. I would, however, recommend High Park's Black Magic dark sour over this one.

473ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $3.75CDN.

Appearance - Mostly clear pale golden brew with next to no head retention and large amounts of fizziness.

Smell - sour aroma with definitely lime aroma.

Taste - Lime flavored, plenty sour, tasty enough with out a huge amount of depth.

Mouthfeel - Medium-light bodied and quite fizzy, feel fits the flavors well.

Overall - Not my favorite gimmick beer, but decently enough executed. Unlikely to come back to this offering however.
