Lightwave is a light bodied session IPA, packed with tropical fruit aromas and flavours thanks to a generous dry-hop of Citra and El Dorado. With minimal bitterness and a slight haze, this refreshing session IPA is best enjoyed on a warm sunny day, paired with cheesy nachos, spicy salsa or grilled fare.

473 mL can from the LCBO; coded Mar 24 2025 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a hazy pale golden colour, topped with just under two fingers of homogeneously foamy head that wilts within three minutes or so. A loose collar of suds lives on, surrounding a few patches of film on the surface; minimal lace deposition. Fruity on the nose, including pear, lychee and passion fruit, as well as hints of melon, nectarine and pineapple.

It tastes fine, but the flavour profile is less diverse than the aroma. I'm still getting lychee and melon, as well as hints of peach, grainy malts and pineapple candy. Light lemon-lime zestiness at the finish, quickly subsumed into a dry-ish aftertaste. Light in body, with aggressive carbonation that relentlessly prickles the tongue during each sip, resulting in a frothy mouthfeel. A little bloaty because of the carbonation, but otherwise pretty easy to toss back.

Final Grade: 3.62, a B grade. High Park's Lightwave is a decent session IPA with some room for improvement. It's a bit thin, even for 4.5%, and the sharp carbonation doesn't help with that perception. I really enjoyed the aroma, but the flavour profile is like a silhouette - the same basic outline as the nose, but lacking in depth. More or less average and forgettable - not a bad hazy session IPA, but not a brew to go out of your way for, either.
