Aged in fresh red wine barrels for 31 months, and twice refermented with loads of ripe local fruit, this dynamic red ale is beautifully jammy and assertively tart.

Hazy dark red, almost brown but not quite, with a short creamy khaki head dying off to a bubbly collar.
This features funky strawberry first and foremost--it's both backyard strawberry jam and significantly funky--but the wood and sourness are imparting intensely acetic balsamic vinaigrette and dark oak characteristic that are very acidic. The crisp effervescence of the medium body only cuts a little deeper, before finishing semi-dry.
I can't believe it's taken this long for me to be able to try this one. I wanted it so badly when it first came out, and the fruits, mainly the strawberry, have hung on surprisingly well. However, after all this time, for it to be this potently acetic is unbelievable. I can't imagine it having been better at release, especially relative to Herringbone, which was amazing fresh and kind of fell off on the strawberry front later on.

375 mL bottle. Deep amber body with a small off-white head. Smells of oak, caramel malt, vanilla, and acidic berries. Berry aroma is vinous and dark-smelling. Tastes of toasted malts, some caramel, then the berries take over. Strong dark berry flavor. Kinda wine-y here, too. Oaky in the back end. Strong sourness. Pretty intense. Barrel character and sourness really dominate. The berries all blend together and become generic, but it's pretty good.
