A fusion of sour reds and sour browns, each component ranged from 1-3 years in the barrel. Oak malt, tart jabs, and a funky backbone formed from the complex blend of wild yeast. A balanced interpretation of both east and west Flanders tradition.

16.9 oz bottle poured into pint glass.
A: Dark amber red body with a bit of density still light escapes. Head was a tiny bubbles creamy looking slightly off white.
S: cherries, grapes, Chardonnay, oak, a little vinegar, and sour apple.
T: light Bourbon, oak, some light cherry, nice woody slight sour toffee taste on the finish.
M: Carbonation isn't as biting as expecting a little softer on the palate fairly smooth.
O: This isn't bad. I wish it were more sour but it seems to come up a little short. I think the Barrel seems to almost mute the flavors in the finish.

Dark garnet with a bubbling but minimal tan collar.
Smell suggests a mild Flanders, with cherry, oak, and the spirit of vinegar, getting smokier as it warms.
Taste is more assertive, like the good Duchesse, but not quite as powerful, with acetic tones of grape, red wine, cherry, black pepper, oak, tannins, and a hint of butter.
Crisp for a sour, on the verge of vinegar acidity yet it's not too sour. It actually softens up more as it warms, and finishes just barely, slightly dry.
This is the most complex, most mature and old world-like sour I've had from Jackie O's, and thus is my favorite, and in fact appears to be my favorite brew of theirs of any style. If they continue down this path of maturing and growing in regards to the way in which they're producing these beers, they will easily reach another level and really put Ohio on the map for quality sours.
