I think I need to drink more Barleywines.
The look is darker than expected with a manilla colored head which leaves spotty lacing.
The taste gives the impression of sweet without being sweet. Butterscotch and toffee, dates and leather. Delicious.
The feel is viscous, not quite syrupy but getting close.
Another really good beer from Jackie O’s.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours dark brown with minimal head. the nose is a great mix of hops and bourbon. Grapefruit peel, toffee, raisins, and maybe a touch of clove.
The taste is fantastic. Sweet toffee, hops, leather, bourbon, vanilla, oak, candy, and plums. Almost a tad syrupy, but it doesn't really detract from the experience. Great beer overall.

Picked up a 375 ml bottle from the Appalachian Vintner in Asheville 3-8-23 for $14.99. 2023 edition consumed 3-6-24.
Beer poured brown with a nice off-white head.
Nose is very nice, getting notes of caramel, toffee, raisins, and vanilla.
Taste is excellent as the large caramel malt base emits notes of toffee, butterscotch, and raisins. Barrels give notes of vanilla while the hopping gives a nice balancing finish with notes or tangerine.
Mouthfeel is medium to large bodied and very smooth.
Overall digging this take of an American Barleywine!

The guy pictured on this label looks a lot like a man I used to work with named Phil. He was not a pleasant person, easily the most profane individual I've ever come across. Once, when he was talking about a group of people he didn't like he actually said, "man, fuck those fucking fuckers."
But regardless of any unpleasant memories this label might evoke, this is a barleywine from Jackie O's and I always want that. Lots of syrupy sweetness here, butterscotch, simple syrup, light molasses, corn syrup candi sugar, plus hints of dates and candied nuts. The finish adds an odd hoppy note, kind of a not unpleasant orange flavored medicine. Overall this works well but I like their English takes on the style better.

I get that the beer is named after the car, but who is the dude on the label of the bottle? It's a mystery. Picked this up because it said "barleywine". I had some big bills this week so i'm drinking on a budget and this is my one expensive beer i'm allowing myself for this week. Pours out caramel brown, with a slightly reddish hue. A haze of swirled bubbles floats on top and a ring graces the edges of the glass. Smells a bit like maple syrup and carmelization. Flavors of butterscotch, candi sugar, caramel, toffee, swirled about in a moderately syrupy mouthfeel. Low to moderate carbonation. Overall, this is sweeter than I would imagine an American barleywine, if I did a blind taste test i would guess this to be an English barleywine.

Pours a beautiful clear amber color with a tan head. The smell of the beer is of dark fruits and caramel. The taste is of creamy vanilla, toasted caramel, coconut and nutty finish. Sweetness yet not cloying. The feel is medium to full bodied, silky smooth. Overall highly enjoyable. Really well done Barleywine!

A - Dark burgundy colored pour with white lacing and no carbonation.
S - Brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, and toasted caramel.
T - Molasses, toasted caramel /toffee, oak, vanilla, Bourbon, tea is buried way underneath and gives it a slight bitterness on the finish.
M - Big syrupy body that's silky smooth and sticky on the lips. Slight warming in the back of the throat and wet on the finish.
O - This is a really well done 'Barley.

12.7 ounce bottle, 2023 vintage. Served in a Jackie O's snifter, the beer pours a reddish/copper color with about an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like caramel, raisins, oak, vanilla and some bourbon. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some black tea, nutty/almond, earthy, stone fruit and brown sugar flavors. A little sweeter tasting than I was expecting for an American style barleywine, but that's not a complaint. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, definitely worth trying, especially if you like barleywines!

12.7oz bottle dated 2023 poured into an oversized snifter at just above fridge temp 12.7% ABV per label. Label also states this is an American barley wine aged 19 months in bourbon barrels. The beer pours opaque medium brown with light brown colored head. The head recedes to a pencil thin ring and nothing else. No lacing. The aroma is mild with predominant caramel and lesser notes of bourbon and oak. The taste is semisweet caramel and vanilla up front before the bourbon and barrel roll in to dry things up. Mild bitterness. The mouthfeel is creamy & full bodied with less than medium carbonation and a semi dry finish. No harsh ethanol, but a gradual warming of the mouth and belly tip the hand on the ABV a bit. Overall, excellent. Decidedly less bitter and lacking the hop presence of most American style barley wines, but I'm good with it. Delicious sipper.

12.7oz bottle, served in a snifter glass. 2023 bottling.
Appearance: Dark amber-brown color, a bit cloudy and not letting too much light through when held up to the light. Thin off-white head with some small strands and islands of lacing that would slowly slide back down the glass and disappear.
Smell: Caramel, sweet, maybe a hint of orange.....and I think they planted the idea in my head with the description, but it does kinda smell a bit like it has some orange marmalade in it. Some vanilla notes as well.
Taste: Quite sweet. Caramel, orange marmalade, vanilla, and maybe a bit of marzipan, but the marzipan/almond note is at the finish and it doesn't last long. Some mild bitterness toward the finish, but this beer finishes sweet.
Mouthfeel: Nicely thick and smooth. A little warming, but the alcohol is well hidden. Mild carbonation at the finish.
Overall / Drinkability: A dessert in a glass, but not a pastry stout or anything like that. This is definitely a barleywine, and it's on the sweet side, but I'm enjoying it with all the flavors and aromas that are coming out. The alcohol is well hidden, and it's a slow sipping beer due to all the strong sweet flavors. Well done.

From the 375 ml bottle in a snifter. This excellent barely wine, a personal
favorite style of ale, pours a muddled red tinged mahogany with a decent head
of off white foam that settles to a thin ring, faint dusty layer, and sports faint lacing
with nice legs. Nose of caramel, bourbon, vanilla, raisin, date, fig, brown sugars,
an vinous brandy notes amongst herbal hops and oak. Flavors nail it....oak, bourbon,
vanilla, orange zest, caramel, brown sugars, dates, golden raisin, faint cherry and
peach elements, and spicy hops amongst layers of warming booze. Mouth feel is
medium, faint carbonation, smooth as silk, a true sipper, and finishing sweet with
balanced herbal and spicy hops over layers of warm bourbon.
Overall----beyond what I expected!
Cheers

I was a tad skeptical that Jackie O's would really commit to an American barleywine, and those suspicions are vindicated by the sweetness and malt running all over this. I definitely get a fair bit of fruit, but to my palate, it presents with more of a modest tannic, vinous astringency than hoppy bitterness. Still quite enjoyable and on par with their other barrel-aged barleywines, just not quite living up to the label text.

As it seems that barelywine is waning in its favoritism among craft beer drinkers, its clear that those groups haven't had Jackie O's barelywines.
Dark and russet brown, Bonneville sits with a handsome dark tawny appearance, a skim of mocha froth and a nearly still appearance quickly leads to a flood of aromatics on the nose. Sultry sweet scents of molasses and maple invite a more savory fruit character of stone fruit, dark fruit and pitted fruit in nearly sherry-like form. With the suggestions of chocolate mingling on the early palate, the initial taste is redolent with brown sugar, molasses and toffee.
Not stopping there, the middle palate shows for toasty and savory impressions of coffee, cocoa, walnut and sweetened oak for a savory nutty flavor. Plum, fig, date and raisin all seem whisky soaked as a decadent taste of port wine and sherry have the viscous ale trending full, juicy and nearly tart with vinous flavor. A rise of mild bitterness brings the coffee and oak into the forefront as the ale nears finish, decorating the late palate with amaretto warmth, praline and earthen tobacco.

375ml bottle served in a curvy Fremont glass. Only date that I see is the year 2023 in the state/logo on the back. Arrived in an NBS BIF #17 box from @ozzylizard today.
Pours rich dark brown, might be a little hazy, small amount of pretty persistent head. Not a lot of carbonation, but what's there is struggling up from the depths. Looks thick. Smell is a ton of burning hot booze up front, but there's some nice vanilla and oak in the background, a little toffee and maybe something along the lines of figs or sticky toffee pudding. There's also some clear grassy/cut vegetation notes that I guess come from the hops, and remind me a lot of Bigfoot.
Taste is surprisingly nuanced -- from the smell, I was expecting a booze bomb, and that's not what's going on. There's a vanilla creaminess and associated sweetness, dates come out very clearly, oak is a bit more subdued, those Bigfoot hoppy notes are wallflowers at this dance until the very end, which really just serves to highlight the vanilla creaminess. It's sweet, but not syrupy sweet.
Mouthfeel is thick, surprisingly airy. Overall, this is a gorgeous beer.
