L: Pours a thick, dark fudge, almost black. A very faint espresso head forms before fading. No appreciable retention, but there is the faintest ring of effervescent lacing around the edge of the snifter. Held to the light, a near-black dark brown.
S: Bourbon barrel, vanilla, and malt on the nose. Hints of cacao nibs, a faint char, and caramel. Improves as it warms.
T: Follows the nose. Initially, bourbon barrel dominates. Notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak. Hints of cacao nibs, light char, and some dark fruit. Finishes with a bit of warmth.
F: Medium- to full-bodied, leaning towards full. Moderate carbonation. Smooth, slick, oily mouthfeel. Nice finish - bitter & warming.
O: Solid imperial stout. Not especially unique but a fine beer in it's own right.

12.7 ounce bottle, 2023 vintage, thanks to Brutaltruth for this bottle! Served in a Jackie O's snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with a very small tan head that fizzled away kinda quickly. Not much lacing, either. The brew smells like vanilla, cacao nibs, bourbon, caramel and roasted malt. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some fudge, dark bread, and dark fruity flavors. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's syrupy and slick with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good barrel aged imperial stout, although I do wish the barrel character had more of a kick. With that being said it's still pretty tasty!

My college buddy brought a bottle of this beer to share at a House Party for the OSU vs ORE game.....which OSU lost by a point. It poured an opaque dark with no head and no lace. The scent and taste had bourbon, dark chocolate and dark fruit presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer!

From the 12.7 fl oz bottle in a snifter. This solid little imperial pours an
oil slick black with a dusty film and nice legs. Nose of bourbon, dark
chocolate, vanilla, and moderate char amongst moist oak. Flavors follow
the nose with dark chocolate, bourbon, oak, medium char, deep roasted
malts, rich vanilla, and dark berry elements dancing about dark coffee nuances.
Mouth feel is full, faint carbonation, smooth, lightly warming, and finishing
with a bitter malt and warming booze note.
Overall, a solid little imperial although less refined than some of the good O folks
offerings.
Cheers

Look - really fantastic looking beer. Black and thick with a nice tan head, rimming and lacing
Smell - slightly sweet chocolate and vanilla smell with boozy wooden bourbon smells in the back
Taste - basically the same as the smell but dialed back quite a bit. Still has the chocolate vanilla barrel but not anything pronounced, and it has a slight bitterness to it. As it warms, more chocolate than anything
Feel - full body with a slight carb
Overall - One of my least liked JO BA beers. Not bad, just not high on the list

2023 vintage; consumed on 3/4/2024
Pours a slick, oil-black body capped with a finger of rich, pale-mocha foam; good head retention leaves a spotty, thin cap, slight, frothy collar, and the occasional strand of soapy lacing holding tentatively around the walls of the glass.
Aroma wafts dark chocolate brownie and milk chocolate chip accents, with edges of jet-puffed marshmallow building into a slight, dusty oak rickhouse back end.
Taste brings familiar tones of chocolate brownie upfront, purveying a lingering charred malt and deeper cocoa undertones through the mid-palate as a distant edge of burnt vanilla grazes the finish.
Mouthfeel shows a medium-light body and a modest spritz of semi-creamy carbonation; slick textures precede a subtle char past the mid-palate as a dulled warmth lingers through modest dryness on the back end.
Huge cocoa waves amplify a charry base to natural decadence, with a tentative bourbon underscore left meandering through the profile largely as an afterthought.

Glossy black with no head but for a thin tan chain.
The round body delivers full expressions of charred oak with cacao, fudge and vanilla creme, like an Oreo dipped in whiskey.
