Super excited to ry this one out. Batch #80401

A: Medium brown in color with an off white head.

S: Smell was crisp and acidic at first, then a deeper funk started to come through.

T: Lightly crisp, not a lot of sourness, but a lovely complexity with a woody flavor and perhaps a touch of smokiness.

M: Light bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: Overall an interesting funky brew.

 

Mono blend, 2015, bottled 2016. A delicate tartness at below room temperature, gaining bitterness and after bite progressively as it warms. Sips invite me back for more. All geuze is great, and this one is rich, inheriting great notes from the Calvados barrel.

 

 

 

Tried 108 first, now trying all of them together to discover the nuances. They all look the same: somewhat murky golden body with a white cap. Nose is way more funky and earthy, oak more pronounced too. Taste almost has a spicy earthy note with the oak and funk, horseblanket bigger than 108, sour citrus strong on second half but not as much of a crescendo. The beautiful aspect here is the feel, way more funky, dry, and WAY less acidic, though still having sourness in a light body.

Cloudy orange appearance; champagne bubbles throughout.

A slow pour yielded a small white head; almost no lace.

Tart peach, mild lemon & faint honeyed wheat notes in the nose.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Tart, prickly peach & lemon flavors up front; mild honeyed wheat notes on the finish.

Flavorful & bold; a bit too tart/sour for my timid soul, but overall a worthy experience. Can't wait to try more of these...

 

Brewed on 1/7/2015, bottled on 12/19/2016. (a birthday of mine).
Moderate pour yields a 1/2 inch white head over a bright body a little lacing. Nose of funk (cellar floor), citrus (lemon, yellow grapefruit), slight apple, and biscuit. Taste follows nose in the citrus department through the middle with added apple from the Calvados barrel, and a nice morphing into a wonderful, dry finish. Very nice feel and overall, a damn fine Geuze right here. Cheers!

Great lacing and head in a wine glass. Aroma is really crazy, peaches, fruit, booze, tobacco smoke, wine, and alcohol. Flavor is thick, alcohol and Oude geuze.

375ml bottle, cork and cage, lambic tumbler glass. Lighter straw yellow body, clear on the first pour, one finger white head, good retention, a bit of lacing. Sweet green apple (but not in an acetone way), dab of leathery funk, bright lemon, hay, oak, a bit of zest, cereal grain. This is refreshingly sweet enough without being overly sweet, and is really quite balanced. Sweeter than most Boon oude geuzes, in my opinion, and not as dry. Medium bodied, good carbonation, effervescent but not too dry, apple sweetness going through into the finish. Looking at the bottle, it's clear to me that the calvados barrels contributed a very helpful sweetness and complexity to it.
