This Old Geuze is the favorite of our tasting team. It is pleasantly full-bodied, complex and contains smoky and spicy tests. These unique flavors are derived from the oak barrel, used for red wine in France in the Rhône valley. The oak tree clearly expresses a stamp on the overall taste image and adds a particularly positive contribution to the Lambiek aroma.

A: Pours an almost clear golden/orange color. At first a dense white head rises to over two finger. Not a lot of lace, but as always, impressed with the color and head retention.
S: Grapefruit, white wine, spice, cheesy funk. The funk becomes more apparent as this warms. Really enjoyable.
T: Grapefruit pith is up front and the bitterness is surprisingly strong. White wine characteristics, and peppery spice. Acidic and puckering sourness. Big funk, and I always associate this kind of Gueuze funk as "cheesy." Really nice.
M/O: That perfect light to medium body. Effervescent, crisp, and smooth at the same time. Finishes puckering and dry. Something that is very nice to savor on. Really enjoyable.

I am beyond impressed with this box. This has a more noticeable grapefruit bitterness along with that great acidic and funky character. Love all these, and very glad I had a chance to get this box, very much worth the purchase IMO.

A: meduim amber in color, with a good bit of haze from the dregs A large white head with multiple frog eyes on top.

S: On first opening there is a lovely sour aroma. in the glass there is a little more funk, and a touch of barnyard.

T: Crisp with sour notes, and a somewhat earthy finish.

M: light, crisp, and effervescent.

O: Overall this is a pretty stellar version of the style.. perhaps not as oxidised as the last vat I tried. Lovely.

Bottles from 2016 have a non pleasant Funk and have mild vinegar taste while lacking any brightness on the palate. Some old gueze manages to taste well after it acquires the distinct vinegar taste but this fails to do so.

Tried 108 first, now trying all of them together to discover the nuances. They all look the same: somewhat murky golden body with a white cap. Milder nose with funk and oak starring, citrus more zesty and floral notes whisper near the end of the sniff. Taste follows, medicinal citrus with mineral tones meet grass, oak, and mild barnyard funk. Thin and dry profile runs the feel, slight sourness lingers.

Oude Geuze Boon VAT 92 ABV 8.00%, brewed 2014, bottled 2016.

Look: dark golden with a half inch white head

Aroma: The aroma is oak, smoke and citrus.

Flavor: The flavor is complex, wheat biscuits, red wine, apricot, apple(I think), oak, pepper, and smoke. It is not very tart. I like my Geuze more tart, but the my wife liked that it was less tart. In any case, it is very tasty and thirst quenching.

Body/Overall: medium body

L:. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a foamy rocky white head and no lacing on the glass.

S:. Notes of spice, intermingle with a strong brett barnyard funk, a hint of smoke, some tartness and a bit of sour.

T:. Earthy spiciness, a strong barnyard funk from the Brett, mixes with quite a bit of tart and sour. Lots of Brett funk to this one is nice.

F:. Smooth lighter carbonation, medium body.

O;. This beer is a nice highlight for the Brett.

Brewed 11/16/14, bottled 12/16/16

On tonight's menu, we have my second-ever Gueuze, picked up on a whim on Half Time's website along with a few others. I loved the first one I had from Hansenns, so I have high hopes for this one

Pours an opaque brownish gold with a finger of white head that quickly fades to a ring and leaves minimal lacing

There's a certain funk and raw spice in the nose that stops me dead in my tracks before I can even bring this up for a sip. I'm picking up on aromas of smoky oak, earthy pepper, apple skin, light mint, old leather, blackberry, acidic white wine, and crackery malt. Just an awesome aroma

Unfortunately, the taste doesn't blow me away like the aroma did, but it's still solid. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting musty leather, white wine, white pepper, and a light crackery malt. The swallow opens up a bit more, bringing notes of rich blackberry wine, smooth oak, lemon, wet hay, and bready malt

A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a lightly tart and spicy beer that is refreshing for the abv. Finishes mostly dry and acidic

While I enjoyed this, I think I was a bit let down after the incredible aroma. It goes downhill as you move on, but it's certainly not bad. It just seems like it might have lost any of the richer flavors over the years in favor of acidity

375 ml corked and caged bottle, brewed on 11/16/2014, bottled 12/16/2016, best before date of 12/16/2036 on back label. Served in a Beer Advocate Teku, the beer pours a mostly clear golden/orange color with about an inch white head. Head retention is good and there's a small amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like apricots, white and red grapes/wine, oak, funk, and some stone fruit. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some hay, vanilla, citrus zest, peppercorns and melon. Tart and funky! Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth and has a good amount of soft carbonation which helps make this easy to drink. I thought this was pretty good, definitely worth trying!

2016 Vintage

The pour is bronze colored with some floating sediment in the snifter glass. The taste is very sour with some tart & faint barnyard funk notes near the finish. Moreover, I find this beer style to be quite tasty & interesting, it's lip pucker type of beer that leaves some twang on your tongue. Cheers! A-
