Oude Geuze Boon VAT 110 has given its light, dry but very full-bodied taste, with a hint of vanilla and dry fruit, thanks to foeder No. 110. This foeder was previously used as a cognac cask and has been serving the brewery since 2009 as Lambiek vat. This ancient geuze is characterized by a wealth of aromas, developed by the Brettanomyces yeast in the barrel.

A: Pours with a medium haze that eventually clears up a little bit. A golden/orange color. A dense two finger white head forms at first, which recedes quickly. Not much lace is left behind.
S: A much more subtle nose then I got with the Vat 108. More kind of generic oak, funky cheesy/Brett characteristic. I don't get much fruit in the nose, but that is not a bad thing.
T: There it is, very acidic and more apple skin based than 108. White wine, grapes, and even a peppery spice. Oak/wood flavors seem to be more apparent here. Finishes with more tart fruit skins that I just love.
M/O: Medium bodied, and I love the carbonation. Super effervescent, done dry, and a beautiful puckering pull on the tongue that makes me want to keep coming back. Really enjoyable, as I would expect.
This is another great Geuze. This certainly has a great acidic fruit character, maybe not as sinus clearing as 108, or maybe I have gotten use to the acid after two bottles. Though, I do feel this is more subtle and in a good way. Again, and excellent bottled from the box set.

Brewed in April 2014, bottled December 2016, drunk April 2026
Batch 74504
Aroma of finished wood with wax coating. Light brown coloured body, a whisp of white. Goes down surprisingly easy, some carbonation and mild acidic residue on the lips in aftertaste. Lovely dark fruit, spice, and lots of foeder taste character. Sediment in bottom makes the tasting range more intense.

Deep gold, bubbly white head. Tight carbonation contributing to its lively and light champagne quality. The nose is floral but the big payoff is taste complexity. It's on the tart side but not too much so. Foeder wood is present, as are evolving flavors like grape skins, dried fruit and a bit of earthy funk. Classic lambic!

Poured from 375mL corked & caged bottle into my BeerAdvocate teku. My bottle shop must have dug this one up out of the archives ... can't wait to try it!
Appearance: rich dark-golden hue, almost copper, with a crystal-clear body, a good effervescence, and a finger of frothy ivory foam. The color is deeply satisfying.
Smell: sweet with a delicate tartness and a dash of funk. There is a light fruitiness here and what I imagine to be a hint of that cognac foeder. It's nice.
Taste: how can I describe this? It has the flavor of something sweet, but is actually quite dry. It's a little tart, but even subtler than the aroma would have you believe. You can definitely taste the wood; in a lesser beer, I might expect this to be astringent, but here, it's just a delightfully crisp and intriguing quaff. Great!
Mouthfeel: light body with a big carbonation and a good, though ephemeral, creaminess.
Overall: I like this beer a lot. I think because it rides right up to the edge of "too woody" or "too dry", but doesn't cross those lines (for my palate, anyway), it ends up reading as just a crisp, delightful treat.

Tried 108 first, now trying all of them together to discover the nuances. They all look the same: somewhat murky golden body with a white cap. Musky and funky nose with dry oak, flowers, grass, lemon zest, less potent than 108. Taste is a less acidic and sour version of 108, more funk and toasty earth but both have plenty of oak. Feel is dry and funky with lingering sourness and a kiss of acidity, thinner but pleasant.

Bought the beer at Bottlecraft in San Diego, CA. Brewed: 04/16/2014, bottled: 12/15/2016, consumed: 0815/2021. $15 for 12.7 oz bottle.
A&S: Very lively beer, with tiny carbonation bubbles rising up. White head pours a half finger and dissipates to a ring with a very thin layer on the surface. The aroma is faint but pleasant. Woody and herbal, hints of sour tones.
T&M: Tart, but not super sour. The flavors I am getting are apples, apricots, pineapples, and grapefruit. Slightly acidic. Crisp and clean mouthfeel.
Overall: Really enjoyed this beer. I really liked the fact that the aroma and taste are so different from each other. Didn't get any cognac, but otherwise, it was delicious.

A nice cloudy pale orange pour -- it almost looks like a scrumpy cider. That will be a bit of a theme. Tart lactic bite on the nose with lots of apple. It smells very sweet. The taste is layered, like any reasonable lambic. A brite tart punch followed by apple layered with the smooth silk of cognac immediately filled by pineapple and then finishing with a lingering horse-saddle. Disappointingly thin.
I wish I had this one to blend with some others in the series. It has solid legs but some missing parts that could be easily complimented by another brew. Then again, that's why the folks at Boon have their jobs and I'm just sipping.

I picked this beer up on my birthday, from a wonderful small beer store. From an elegant, corked bottle, it pours as a dark honey colored liquid with a thin and wispy head. Less cloudy than I anticipated. Wine-like aroma with some oak and fruit notes. The taste is wonderfully tart, but it really retains it's wine-like qualities. Medium body and very enjoyable.

Bottle. White head. Dark orange hued golden color.
I drank this without reading what type of barrels to try and guess and I thought it had a dark grape flavor. Very wine like but not wine barrel aged. After reading cognac it made sense. Very herbally with perfume notes, wet oak, grapefruit citrus, and some mineral notes. A very solid offering from Boon.
