Day 5 of the craft beer advent calendar. Great imperial stout that is both smooth and nuanced
The chocolate notes swirl around the finish. Very well made

Day #5 of the 2018 advent calendar, and I think we've already located the best beer of the bunch.
This is a spectacular stout-- super black, slightly sweet, and smooth as all get out while going down.
I could have crushed three of these in an hour; too bad that I don't think I'll ever see it on the liquor store shelves in the future.

341ml bottle - day 5 of the 2018 Craft Beer Advent Calendar. I thought that Yukon had made an Imperial Stout before, but I guess not.

This beer pours a fairly solid black, with subtle amber highlights, and two flabby fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and mildly bubbly brown head, which leaves a low-rising wall of painted lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of lightly roasted, bready and doughy caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, cafe-au-lait, a bit of dark stone fruitiness, and very tame earthy, musty, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is rich medium chocolate pudding, grainy and bready caramel malt, toffee, a faint wet ashiness, day-old coffee grounds, and more well-understated leafy, musty, and dead floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite laid-back in its placid-seeming frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with a nice airy creaminess arising as things warm up a bit by this particular juncture. It finishes off-dry, the malt cooly running the lingering show.

Overall - well, the 'ten different malts' used to make this offering sure do get along, melding almost perfectly into a blended whole. Soft, supple, and easy to put back, especially as there is literally no sign of the 19-proof booze quotient. Great stuff!
