Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a dark brownish red color with a one finger head of off white foam. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading over time to leave a tiny bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is strongest of a roasted malt smell with a good deal of a bready smell. Along with these aromas comes some caramel and molasses sweetness as well as some lighter smells of char and a bit of a toast.
Taste – The taste begins as one may expect from the nose with a big roasted malt flavor. The flavor is bready upfront, but not very sweet, with only a lighter level of caramel, molasses, and some darker fruit sweetness being on the tongue throughout the taste. As the taste moves forward, it gains some notes of a roasted coffee taste as well as a bit of bitterness from a more earthy hop, which when combined with the rest of the flavors, ends up leaving one with a roasty and rather malty, but slightly drier flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the average to slightly thicker side in terms of chewiness with a carbonation level that is on the more moderate side overall. For the roasted malt and darker bready flavors of the brew the feel is quite nice and creates a rather tasty and roasty fall beer overall.
Overall – A rather nice red ale that has a big deal of roasty/toasty taste all while maintaining a slightly drier but thick taste and feel. A rather good fall brew I must say!
