Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The brew is served a dark brown nearly black color with a one finger head of foam. The head fades moderately quickly leaving just a trace of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a roasted malt smell mixed with a big showing of coffee. Along with these smells comes some aromas of molasses and a little bit of a grassy and herbal smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a rather strong roasted malt flavor that is mixed with some tastes of herbal and grassy hops. As the taste advances the coffee starts hitting the tongue with some light caramel tastes that were present upfront fading from the taste. At the same time some pine hop flavors and a surge in the herbal hop occur, in the end leaving one with a rather roasty and decently dank/herbal flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the dark IPA style the feel is great, with the creaminess being good for the darker flavors while the carbonation adds a nice exciting feel to complement the hop.
Overall – A fairly nice black IPA, that is not overly sweet or hoppy, but one that has a decent sum of roastiness and medium hoppiness.
