Golden and hazy with lots of fast rising, small bubbles. Topped with 3 fingers of off white head.

Smells of caramel, honey, pine, and green, earthy hops.

The taste follows the nose. Very refreshing.

Light body, moderate carbonation and a slightly tannic finish.

Got at LCBO in Rousseau yesterday, drinking on the south end of Rousseau, May 26th, 2018. Really good pale ale.

Pours cloudy gold with a super long lasting chunky head. Citrus and honey in the nose. Citrusy, grapefruity hops with a light metallic edge in the taste. Bready malts provide lots of balance. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Lightly bitter, somewhat astringent finish.

This is a decent APA, but the hop profile could be juicier and there are a few off flavors.

Can - pours a murky honey-gold color with a smallish cap. Aromas are subdued for the style but you get some faint pine, citrus and boiled cereal tones. Subdued character, rounded, silken oily mouth feel. Flavor profile has the chewy malts in balance with piney hops long wet finish fails to build the bittering expected but it is remarkably mellow, flavorful brew which is also satisfying - but it's no hop bomb - just a decent unfiltered pale.

The name says it all. This is a creative, original APA with an aromatic hop profile that's definitely verging on East Coast IPA territory. Pours a hazy golden colour with a big, foamy head. Hop aromas of peach, tangerine, and pineapple. Flavours follow the nose, plus some astringent citrusy hop bitterness. I really liked this one. Over the past couple of years Ontario has been inundated with bland APAs and overly perfumy "session" IPAs, so this beer, with its skilful delivery of big, in-your-face hop aromas at the lower end of the spectrum for bitterness and booze, really stands out for me.

Pours a hazy deep gold with about a thumb's worth of head. The head breaks quickly and there is a tiny bit of lacing. The smell is strong hops with solid malt presence. Taste is bitter hops, not in a good way, and a touch of malt. Feel is a bit rough. Medium body and carbonation, but it does not go down well at all. I found it coated my mouth with a bitter film.

Nope, not for me. I think they just threw all the hops they could find at this, and forgot what a pale ale should taste like.

Hop heavy over a big dose of malt. Clear gold brew, moderate head, some lace. A bigly hopped brew that doesn't show much balance despite a fairly large malt presence. No harmony. Drinkable, but undistinguished.

L: Very short lived rocky head with soda pop like giant bubble streaming up through a brilliant yellow beer.
S: A bit of grainy aroma but no discernible hop character
T: Lingering unpleasant "beery" flavor and a bit skunked tasting, bitter w/o much hop flavor.
F: Sticky and heavy body for an APA
O: Not good, won't get again and did not finish the pint.

Can: Poured an amber color ale with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of citrusy malt notes with some light dry caramel malt notes. Taste is dominated by medium citrusy notes with limited bitterness and some light dry caramel malt notes. Body is pretty full for style with good carbonation. Not bad but falls a bit short on the hops side of things.

473 mL can from the LCBO; best before Apr 21 2017 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a turbid medium golden hue, with large flecks of suspended solids giving this pale ale a mucky complexion. One finger of puffy, foamy white head is situated atop; it displays superb retention, hanging around for the better part of 10 minutes, eventually receding down to a smooth, dense cap and generously-proportioned collar. An attractive swath of lacing is left behind in its wake - other than the profuse amount of sediment, this pale ale looks good. Grain husks, pale barley malts and wheaty bread on the nose, with hints of citrusy orange, pineapple juice, mango, and caramelized sugars. Not particularly aromatic.

A decent pale ale, but not an interesting or unique one. Grainy, doughy malts, along with some bready wheat and light caramel sweetness, comprise the backbone, with the hop flavours allowed to dominate the back end. Fairly citrusy, with a focus on juicy orange and grapefruit pith, with a few tropical fruit notes (mango, pineapple). Finishes with some resiny, floral bitterness, piling on top of the citrusy, pithy qualities, culminating in an aggressively bitter finish and lingering hoppy aftertaste. Not especially well-balanced IMO. Medium in body, with low carbonation levels that result in an exceptionally smooth mouthfeel. Good drinkability, though the bitterness does build on itself somewhat, which means I probably wouldn't want to session it.

Final Grade: 3.56, a B grade. Lord of Lupulin is a strong effort for Pint Pursuits' first retail release, but not a perfect one. As an unabashed hop head, I can appreciate what they were going for with this one, but in truth it's just a little too bitter and unbalanced to earn top marks as an APA - a little more malt character would probably improve this one (as would less medicinal astringency). On the plus side, the smooth, slick texture is quite appealing, and it's not exactly a challenge to knock back. If you can find a fresh sample, give it a look.
