In Rhodes

Better than fear, still probably won't get another r+b beer again though, not worth it for the price.

This is a good NEIPA but falls into the ubiquitous Citra saturated section of the field. Typical flavors are available for enjoyment with a tad too much sweetness for my liking. Dialing up the dank and bitter would be welcome, but still a nice beer

Appearance: Pours out cloudy with a bubble show that produces a two finger head over the goldenstraw colored liquid; strong retention with squiggles and a few shards

Smell: Tropical and juicy aromatics with papaya, mango, melon and lemongrass

Taste: Tropical flavors forward with papaya and mango in the forefront with some berry and melon flavors developing; a bit peppery, in the middle, with lemongrass and lime tones adding some bitterness; the finish is nicely blended

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: This is a very good NE IPA; needs to be a tad juicier to take it to the next level

Thanks, zid, for the opportunity

Canned 12/27/23

Root + Branch is a brewery I’ve been meaning to visit for quite some time now. I end up on Long Island quite often but always tend to forget about it while I’m there. Thankfully this is a very fresh can for my first time trying them, so shoutout to zid for sending me this one as an extra in our recent trade. Let’s get right into it

Pours a hazy pale yellow with 3 fingers of soapy off white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing

The nose is full and tropical, I really dig this. I’m picking up on aromas of banana, mango skin, fleshy peach, grassy hops, overripe cantaloupe, bready malt, sweet honey, papaya, and orange juice

While it doesn’t have quite the same depth in taste, it’s still a dn good NEIPA. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting orange juice, mango skin, crackery malt, lemon zest, papaya, peppery hops, light grass, and lemon zest. The swallow brings notes of mango skin, orange juice, bready malt, pear skin, lemon zest, peach rings, grassy hops, and a touch of honey

A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes mostly dry and refreshing

This is an incredibly strong first showing for Root + Branch. I need to try more for them and visit the brewery

Look - Thick hazy tannish yellow bit lasting frothy milky white head and sticky
Smell - so much juicy citrus and floral with a milky oat malt backbone
Taste - way dialed back from the smell. Still citrus and oat with that juicyness but just not the same
Feel - medium full body with a light carb slight creamy
Overall - great beer but wish it tasted as good as it smells. That smell is pretty awesome

On draft at Harlem Hops. Pale milky golden with moderate lacing. Very soft mouthfeel, floral aroma with lemongrass and honeydew melon. Some oatmeal sweetness on the palate, with honey and blueberry. Low pithy citrus bitterness on the midpalate.
