Choc Beer Co. / Pete's Place

Their loaded bread is the best when you're sampling some of their beers. The Choc beers are ok but every since they bought Prairie they always have a great selection of those. Nice little place.

 

 

 

 

Ok. Not great. I am not a major fan of most of their beers, but the food was pretty good.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Stopped in while working in the area. A unique place in a small town, a bit off the main highway. It is primarily a restaurant with a brewery out back so to speak. The restaurant is broken up into rooms. The meals served are very good with ample portions, although a bit pricey. They have about 4-5 of their beers on tap and a number of bottled beers to choose from. None of their beers are to die for, but of decent quality. Not bad, considering this is Oklahoma with archaic laws still on the books. This was a nice change from all the steak and BBQ places in the area.

Finally I have a few minutes to spare and review Choc and Pete's place! This was my girlfriend and I's first trip down to Krebs and the famous Pete's Place. From a personal invite by brewmaster and all around great guy Mike Lalli, we were really in for a treat. First we got the tour of the brewery itself and I was AMAZED of how they use space there. Not a horribly small place, but not the largest. They turn out some AMAZING brews and everything has its place. Fermenters everywhere and a beautiful Mash Tun and brewhouse...just awesome. Out to the storage facility which is somewhat larger than the brewery and again efficient use of space and very well organized. Mike likes things in their place and it shows.

I thought it was a great trip, then it got better. We were invited to stay and have dinner....WOW. Everything is homemade to the Old Prichard family recipes and are unlike any other Italian you will ever have. All the dishes are served up family style and are all you can eat. Let me tell you...YOU DO NOT leave hungry!! They make sure you are fat and happy. So much history in this place, you can feel it. Pictures of all the generations around while you eat, they really know how to make you feel at home and comfortable. I love Pete's! I just wish it was closer!! If you are ever coming through Oklahoma and you are close, do yourself a favor and stop in to say hello!! You are ALL family at Pete's! Cheers!!

Intended to go to Meer's Burgers for our anniversary
but I navigated us in the complete opposite direction...
Solution? Krebs!

Neither of us had been and it seemed like a great idea

First of all we got there on a day
that they opened an hour later
than usual...Disappointing, but okay, Robber's Cave
was 15 miles down the way. The small
towns in the area are really nice.

When you walk in, the front area is the waiting area
and also where one can buy CHOC merchandise such as T-shirts, Rastal pints/tulips, as well as Pete's Place amentities (fresh Muenster cheese, salad dressing, ravioli, etc.)

The wait was not long, and we were escorted through winding hallways. There are about 8 - 10 dining areas with about 7 tables per area. We really weren't expecting this. Yellow & white is the color scheme with posters such as "The Pasta Chart of Italy" Adorning the walls. Whatever.

Our server was new. Really nice woman with good intentions.
The place is family style, so Antipasti (unlimites) complete with Muenster made in Krebs, pepperoncini, & green olives to whet our appetite. This is really what we ate most of.
This was our first experience w/ family style dining, and as it goes, it is around 23-28 dollars per head w/ unlimited Antipasti, Bread, Ravioli, Spag & Meatballs.
We ordered our beers right away, my lady having the IPA
while I had the Signature Smoked Porter.
Was hoping to get these on Tap as we at the restaurant owned by the brewery. But no. One of the managers brought it chilled in bottles and allowed us to pour it ourselves. Why we asked?
"We actually don't have our liquor license yet..."
Cool. The brewery's restaurant doesn't have their liquor license.

Entree was Grilled Shrimp Alfredo recommended by our server.
Many awkward country boy dates going on around us.
The Skrimps were great of course, yeah. The lasagna was even good, but the biggest portion we got (spag, M.Balls, Ravioli) was HORRIBLE. It was like they made a spaghetti O's sauce from scracth with with bready, dog food meatballs. I spit mine into my napkin and I am never that rude.
We dominated the shrimp and even boxed some up (you can box up the "unlimited" stuff with extra portions. Go Figure, eh?)
We picked our desert which was a choclate lover's pie from a pies-in-a-box, and I finished the dinner with a very mild Pietro Piegari Amber. Not too shabby.
I got the boxed food and headed to the car to get the AC pumpin' and stopped in the main area to take a look at the merch. So i asked a hostess,
"Are the only 'to-go' beers you all have are 1919, Waving Wheat & Last Laugh??"
She replied, " Yeah, we have to abide by the Krebs' laws. All beers have to be at least 3.2 ABW" (4.0 ABV)
At 8.00 a sixer?? No thanks.

Won't be returning unless I happen to be in deep SE Oklahoma.

My wife and I make at least two trips to Pete's place a year. We would go more but it's about a two-hour drive from our house. You are seated in your own private dining room. Choc brewing is next door so you have the selection of all the yummy Choc beers. They start you out on all you can eat cheese olives and peppers they are quite tasty you order an main course and it is served w/ all you can eat spaghetti and meat balls mmmm. Oh I forgot you get bread as well. The service is very friendly although they tend to get pretty busy on the weekends. It's a great place to take family or friends and have some quality craft beer and some of the best Italian food in Oklahoma.

Pete's Place is a SE Oklahoma tradition. The food is superb and you get a lot of it. While it may be a bit pricey, you get treated right, and compared to going to your neighborhood chain BS, it's a bargain. While you're there make sure you try the lamb-fries, which are imported from New Zealand.

Unfortunately the are limited, due to screwy County beer laws, to what they can serve on tap from the brewery. Fairly weird that I can get the Biere' De Garde in a liquor store, but can't get one at the brewery/restaurant where it's made. Don't suppose it's their fault though. Most of their other offerings were available. My wife enjoyed the Peach beer, and I enjoyed a few Basement Batch's while my dad dug on the old-school Choc beer that he used to go there and drink when it was still illegal. He was into craft beer before it was cool to be into craft beer.

Krebs has other really good Italian places to go eat, but none of them have a brewery that offers up some fine beers to go along with your experience. Pete's has always been an enjoyable experience for me, and it should be the same for you, just make sure you bring the credit card, a huge appetite, and a designated driver.

Pete's Place is a brewery/restaurant in a small town about a two and a half hour drive east of Oklahoma City. It's basically a big remodeled house . They don't have a formal bar here. If all you're looking to do is try a beer you'll have to sit on a bench in the waiting area. The restaurant has several enclosed rooms each with a dining table, A very private setting.Too bad it sucks to eat here... If someone in your party isn't hungry they still get charged with a meal, and they're pretty spendy considering the quality.

The beers on the other hand are pretty decent. There's Choc beer which everybody knows about plus a nice brown ale called "1925" , the year the place opened , and a peach flavored ale which the wife loves. Beer to go and glass ware are for sale at the front desk.
Worth a stop if you're really hungry or thirsty.
