Very good head production and retention. Lovely overall.
Whoa! This is a potent nose, but it reveals less than you might think. It's a bit RIS-like in character; the barrel influence certainly leans bourbon, but there's a certain sharpness that reveals the port if (and only if) you know to look for it. Additional notes of prune, toast, bitter chocolate, and some neutral alcohol burn. Overall an excellent aroma, but it could benefit from a bit more strength and complexity.
Just the slightest bit watery on the palate up front, but not in a bad way. It's clearly a big beer, but it's neither thick nor chewy. Certainly full bodied. Long, hot finish. Despite the double digit ABV, it's not an unpleasant or harsh sip; you can very easily sit, sip, savor, and chew. Lingering chest heat. Seriously long finish, despite the alcohol effervescence, so I'm going to mention it again. Aftertaste is very pleasant.
Barrels are prominent on the palate, but as with the nose, the port is at best an afterthought, with the bourbon leading the way. There's a very slight touch of sourness from the mash. Additional tasting notes include oak, chocolate (moderately bitter, less so than on the nose, but still not exactly sweet), licorice (primarily on the finish), cream, toffee, caramel (but not prominent, like salted caramel), light coffee, toast, walnut, very light but still noticeable char, and a hint of raspberry (which could honestly be from the bourbon or port). Really wonderful flavor profile overall. The vanilla no doubt contributes to the hint of cream up front, but is entirely complementary; I'd never know vanilla was added in a blind review (which, it turns out, is exactly how I reviewed this beer).
Overall, this is an excellent double digit barrel aged imperial stout. Happy to come in well above rDev on this one.

Jet black body; opaque; excellent head, dense and creamy, light brown in color; thin sheets and rings of tan foam decorate the glass. Cocoa and bitter chocolate greet the nose; light touch of whiskey. Intriguing taste; chocolate with a spicy, rye-like note; peppery; heavy whiskey aftertaste. Heavy body; weak, velvety feel; sludgy residual sugars; moderate alcohol warmth.
A nice, straight-forward barrel aged imperial stout. I'm guessing bourbon and/or rye barrel aging.
Poured at 53 °F; bottling data: late 2021
