Easily mistaken for a pleasant bruise, the redish stain that Mirror Twin's sour strawberry ale leaves on the lips is the delight of beer drinkers- sour with toasted sweetness, tart with pitted fruit and the floral whimsy of red berry and the whole spring brightens just a little more.
Look, It's Not A Hickey... pours with a rusty red, toasted brown tinted hue. Hazy and lightly adorned with a skirt of froth, the beer's perfume is of bright red berries that lay an overcast on a toasty, nutty and crusty base while pepper, wine and cherry flow underneath. Toasty sweet with steely caramel, nutty and fruity flavor, the sweetness is moderate and sudden.
Fleeting sweetness leaves behind the remnants of bread crust, peanut skins and the seeds of berries while the succulent tartness of strawberry, rhubarb and dragonfruit persist. Cherry, date and fig apply a light tar on the palate while the acidity of red wine, balsamic and cider tingle the tongue underneath. Peppery, toasty and lightly bittered, the ale finishes with a broad woodsy bite and a hint of vinyl spice to close.
Medium bodied but laying tracks of worn malt on the finish, a sense of cola and toast persist in finish while the acidity of the beer is moderate and offers a clean and crisp late taste to accompany the lingering malt tact. A medium length aftertaste of cider and dark fruit prove a perfect complement to oriental foods and cheese plates.
