Teaming up with local homebrewers is nothing new to the Mirror Twin team. They revel in the relationship between hobbiest and professionals, and that connection brings them to a summery pale wheat ale that's both liberally hopped and strewn together with copious amounts of grapefruit.
Pegasus' Boots comes with an appetizing hazy straw hue and crowned with a creamy, short froth. Vibrant aromas of strong white grapefruit overcome the nose in a most hot weather way possible. An undercurrent of pineapple and orange entice the nose further while its early taste is both crisp and soft with creamed wheat, light pastry and suggestions of fruit blossom honey.
As the sweetness slowly fades and the creaminess gives way to crispness, the hops and fruit gain prominence and intertwine across the middle palate. Sharp white grapefruit cuts through any residual weight and the hops churn on the tastebuds with a medley of its own grapefruit resonance, a hint of orange and lemon, Pineapple and a hint of passionfruit leads to an herbal, verbena-like finish with a clean hint of fresh pine shavings for bitterness and balance.
Medium bodied but trending light, crisp and refreshing, the beer borrows a cleaner, hoppier and more fruit forward edge from both pale ale and IPA, but in the soul of a wheat beer. Tim Mehan and the Mirror Twin team has put out a crisp, clean and highly refreshing taste to easily contend with the dog days of summer.
