With nearly a whopping two years under their collective belts, two of Lexington's newest startups put their brewing minds together for an autumn amber ale that's subtly woven with strands of fruit and spice for a uniquely Belgianesque experience.
Rusty amber and cast with a firm haze, the ale swirls with a collapsing froth and a trickle of lace. Rich notes of toast and caramel pin down the nose along with a pep of orchard fruit, stone fruit and spice. Flavors of toasted malts bring a mild savory taste that's remiss of bread crust, peanut skins and an overall caramelized grain sweetness.
As the sweetness begins to break apart, a kiss of citrus rises with hints of orange and grapefruit. Apple, cherry and berry nuances soon follow and await a light spiciness of peppercorn and cinnamon. Moderately bitter and somewhat stemmy, the hops trend broadly and lighlty resinous like dried bark and an overall nutty quality.
Medium bodied, the beer weighs on the tongue with more gravity, because of its shy carbonation that would give the beer a lift. A linger of caramels seems to carry the character of cola and coffee grounds in a medium aftertaste of caramel and peanut.
