As the fascination with the haze craze sweeps across the bluegrass region, no other brewery embraces the New England-style IPA quite like Mirror Twin Brewing. With all the frenzy going on, everyone is encouraged to set their hazers to stun.
And the beer by the same name pours with the murky lemon, ya know- scrambled egg appearance. Opaque and with a strong visual weight, the beer's aromas are moderately bright with brisk citrus, herbal and peppery notes along with a cream scented maltiness. Its taste is doughy and tangy with malt. Fresh breadiness, croissant, and light honey splashes against the tongue for a sweeter, starchier upstart.
As the sweetness begins to wash away, the hops of Simcoe, Amarillo, and Mandarina Bavaria begin to build upon the middle palate. Leading with citrus, the flavors of white grapefruit, lemon and under ripened orange appear just as tangy as it is bright with citronella. Pleasantly herbal, the flavors of mint, lemon pepper, lemon verbena and fragrant sassafras apply a grassy and stemmy flavor on a medium bitter finish.
Medium bodied but trending dry, the beer's modest taste leads to a creamy but lackluster body. Its slight weakness is kept from watery because of the biscuit and starch character of the lingering malts. A medium long aftertaste of herb, hemp and citrus peel carry nearly into the next sip.
