When a beer tastes this good, it's easy to see why last night got a little hazy. But with its unfiltered, full bodied approach and its clustered juiciness in tact, the Mirror Twin IPA of exactly that name simply invites you to drink just one more beer.
Last Night Got A Little Hazy pours with the same melted sherbet appearance that we've grown to expect from New England IPA, but its dainty swirl of foam has the ale looking a little somber. Its bright and juicy aromas catch the whimsy of the nose with its delicate floral scent, a tropical, tangy and citrus perfume. One sip reveals a light meringue sweetness based on pastry, dough and honeysuckle.
As the hops open up, they projects a citrusy taste of lemon and tangy orange on the middle palate, followed by gooseberry, white grape, kiwi and honeydew for a tropical and melon-like tanginess and juice. Modestly bitter, the beer's smooth finish brings a bright grassy herbal taste to the late palate, decorated with light spruce, parsley and verbena.
Medium bodied, the beer's slender carbonation allows the ale to sip somewhat limp on the tongue. Its drying action of hops coupled with a solid minty alcohol sensation applies a cooling evaporation on the throat to ensure a firm sense of refreshment and drinkability despite its lower than expected carbonation. A medium length aftertaste of citrus peel, tropical fruit peel and herb has the palate asking for another sip until that haze comes over the night.
