It's not only their milk stout that brings all the beards to the bar. But when their silky, milky, roasty dark ale hits the taps, then you know that you're off to a better day. Damn right it's better than yours!
Better Than Yours pours a very dark brown, easily mistaken for black, topped with a dainty swirl of espresso froth. Coffee, cocoa, caramel and cream draw the nose while its taste is roasty, toasty and chocked full of walnut earthiness.
Its bold taste is highlighted with roasted grains that resemble cocoa, coffee, burnt toast, charred sugars and a hint of smoldering brushfire. Caramel, light toffee and roasted nuttiness trail into a woodsy bitterness that's broad and balancing on the middle palate. Light cream and vanilla brings a milky sweetness to offset the roast and to round off the rougher edges of char.
Medium full but falling slightly flat on the finish, the beer's light carbonation gives a slight cask-like taste early on, but a cola-like lightness leaves the body unsupported as it attempts to dry. A long and roasty aftertaste is of columbian styled coffee with the bitterness of more turkish blends.
