Elements of softness and robust emerge to fullfil a taste for both the hipster and the rugged in each of us. Mirror Twin’s beer brewed for the masses but inspired by local big head, Joe, is just as mild mannered and gentlemanly as it is masculine and strong.
A Cup Of Big Headed Joe pours a dark chocolate brown color and hazy with a creamy translucence. Its appetizing scent is chocked full of dark roast coffee that exhibits an earthy, peppery scent of nuttiness, scorch and soil. Roasted grains strike first as the sweet taste of the beer carries a caramel, cream and chocolate platform of flavor.
Fading sweetness allows the coffee to govern the balance, hitting home on the earth, roast, spice and bitterness that gives the dark roast coffee the showcase that’s needed. The beer underneath has a mild caramel and toffee undercurrent while trailing with its own broad and bitter woodsiness to close.
Full in body but trending lighter, the effects of coffee, hops and moderate alcohol all work to cut the beer’s maltiness while the use of oats allows the grist to add support for the coffee even while continuing to dry.
