Where the British brown ale naturally takes on nutty flavored properties, the guys and gals at Mirror Twin ain't foolin' around. Hooking up with locally produced honey bourbon pecans from Dee's Nutz for a savory, toasty and nutty flavor that will have squirrels and craft beer lovers far and wide crawling to the bar.
D's Nutty Gone Nutz pours with a scant froth and a muddled brown austere. Its robust scent is all about those candied pecans as a rich scent of butter pecan and pecan pie all come to mind. Sweet on the early palate, the flavors hit the sweet tooth with chocolate, toffee, caramel and cream.
As the sweetness begins to subside, the light natural earth character of coffee, soil and nuttiness emerges on the middle palate. Its nutty additions come with a rich taste of honey, maple, an overall candied nuttiness that's irresistible and undeniable. Lightly bitter to finish, its coffee, chicory and light soil flavors bring a broad and woodsy bitterness to offset the sweetness to a balancing level.
Medium full and light on carbonation, the ale lays weightily on the late palate in a cask ale-like fashion. Mild minty alcohol simmers softly on the finish as brief notes of whisky and walnut seem present. A medium long aftertaste of chocolate and pecan dance harmoniously onward.
