Unlike the fictional character of Dick Dastardly, the German styled dark wheat ale of Mirror Twin works to sooth the situation and create calm in the taproom rather that spread such fuckery.
But the beer named for that fictional antagonist pours with a rusty haze and cast with a short froth. This Dick Dastardly draws the nose close with scents of caramel, bread and tropical fruit. Sweetness comes in the form of toasted fruitcake, caramel and wheat dough as the ale sits on the tongue with a complex effortlessness.
As the flavors unfold, the sweetness hold firm. Fruit esters rise with not-so-subtle character of banana, apple, lemon and a hint of orange. Spices of clove, fennel, peppercorn and vanilla give a racy balance to the sweetness and fruitiness that linger and provide a counterpart to the beer's fruitiness. Mild raisin, date and fig rise late while the beer's soft creaminess gives the spices a rounded middle palate.
Light hopping allows the finish to carry and minty bitterness that facilitates dryness and palatability in this medium bodied beer. Its low rate of carbonation has the beer to sit weightily on the tongue for great appreciation of flavor but at the sacrifice of mouthfeel, aroma and appearance.
