Joining forces with cross town brewers at Blue Stallion, the Mirror Twin collaboration beer takes the German influences that Blue Stallion knows well and puts it to use in an export strength Dortmunder styled lager for a pilsner-esque taste that's built for cold weather.
Sparkling gold and cast in a dull haze, the frothy lager swoons the nose with fresh grains, honeysuckle and the mustiness of fresh dough. Flavors of raw and freshly kilned barley add a hint of honey and cereal with an earhty rawness of baking bread and wafer.
As the flavors unfold, the malt sweetness slowly recedes and the hops transcend from a floral action on the nose and to a light lemon, apple and peppery taste. The elegance of malt carries a hint of savory toastiness after the sweetness subsides and a mineral brine adds as much of a balance to the finish as does the spicy bitterness of lemongrass and lemon pepper impressions from noble German hops.
Medium bodied but certainly fuller than the typical lager, a hint of soap persists as the carbonation calms and a velvety alt character trends in a slim butterscotch direction. A light hint of mint trails into an evaporative cooling sensation from hops and alcohol to keep the palate refreshing an the tastebuds full of delight.
