As a riff off of their Nutty D's brown ale, the brewers at Mirror Twin "mirror" that brown ale with a familiar flavory foundation, but also with something different, something spicy and savory, something that evokes childhood memories of cereal.
Hazy brown to the eye, the beer's light and loose froth swirls with the overwhelming scent of cinnamon, toast, brown sugar and caramel that mingles with the ale's natural coffee, chocolate and nutty notes. Biscuity sweet on the tongue, the beer starts with caramel, toffee and suggestions of brown sugar to entice the senses further.
Sweetness stews on the middle palate, resisting much effort to fade toward dryness, the beer's lighter caramel and simple sweetness outlasts much of the toasted counterparts, but the taste of cereal grains, biscotti, medium toast, candied pecan, medium roast coffee and bittersweet chocolates resonate soundly on the middle palate. Any hops are religated to a supporting role, blending into the toasted grains and coffee impressions with a mild character of orange peel.
Sweet and medium bodied, the beer develops a cola-like and cereal-like fusion on the late palate. Its Cinnamon Toast Crunch character relaxes while the spice of cinnamon continues to apply a peppery sensation to the after palate. A medium length afterglow keeps the impressions of childhood cereal on the forefront of the mind and of the palate.
