Now rolling out their upteenth "hazy" IPA, the Mirror Twin brewery hits the trendy style once more and in unapologetic fashion; they just don't care. And like the badger that don't care either, a beer is born.
Matte goldenrod in a deep and hazy shade, Hazy Badger Don't Care pours with a clumping stark white froth. A radiant perfume of citrus, tropical fruit and melon entices the nose along with a hint of peppery and herb. Malty sweet on the early palate, the taste starts sweet, fruity and doughy, remiss of pastry and poundcake.
A gradual lift of sweetness reveals an even more fruit filled flavor underneath. Hints of honey and succrose give a rounded and juicy flavor of orange juice and sherbet. Cantaloup, papaya, mango and apricot bring about a more exotic and tropical taste before a late turn to pink grapefruit, lemon and sassafras. A moderate bitterness adds a peppery and pleasant grassiness of chive and spruce.
Medium bodied and retaining a bready and even cakey texture, the beer's rich palate is a firm underpinning for fruit but won't allow for the dryness or hop bitterness to command the finish. Smooth and creamy, the finish comes with a slight musk of muddled herb, tropical fruit peels and slight lime-like twang. Its medium length after palate ensues with a gin-like spice and a botanical spice.
