Fruit and hops have always had a certain affinity for one another throughout the course of brewing history. But the addition of lactose to soothe the hop bitterness and to amplify fruit flavors is something that we've only recently seen coming. Those fruit impressions from hops see new heights thanks to Mirror Twin Brewing and this "smoothie" IPA.
Turbid, foggy and carrying the opaque appearance of melted peach sherbet, the ale pours frothy, creamy and lathery. Bold fruit aromas of orchard fruit, stone fruit, tropical fruit and citrus swoon the nose with pastry-like impressions before the malt density of shortcake and pulled candy dance on the front of the tongue.
Peaches, papaya and oranges leap out on the middle palate with hints of pineapple, mango and pink grapefruit following closely behind. A slow fade to dryness leaves the malt richness and sweetness stewing on the palate with a batter-like consistency deep into the late palate with a spicy and lightly bittered taste bringing agave, gin and fruit peel into the taste late.
Medium bodied and light in carbonation, the ale stews on the tastebuds with a creaminess that's woven with curacao liquor and cream to ensure an overall creamsicle taste, but trending more peach than orange into a medium length aftertaste.
