Taking the experimental hop of Bru-1 to the hazy side, the brewers at Mirror Twin join the fall brouhaha of pumpkin spice by using their Bruh-Ha-Haze to the pumpkin pie spice side of seasonal ale. One thing's for sure, this is Not Your Mom's Pumpkin Pie beer.
Pale gold and turbidly hazed, the rich maltiness leaves an opaque finish on the glass. Its frothy white cap wafts toward the nose with tropical, winey hops and the spices that are unmistakable of pumpkin pie. But with the sweetness of honey, shortbread and a cobbler-like crustiness, the malt sweetness steers away from the caramelization usually found in pumpkin ale.
As the sweetness slowly recedes, the hops crawl forward on the middle palate with the uniqueness of pineapple, lemon and white grape of the experimental hop variety while its estery character is melon-like and slight of stone fruit. Pie spices come through on the late palate with the ginger, clove, cinnamon combination of pumpkin pie along with a light and woodsy bitterness hinting toward a peppery, green tea taste.
Medium bodied and trending slightly dry from the use of spices, this unique spin on pumpkin ale brings the popularity of hazy IPA to the notorious world of pie spiced everything in a clever and welcomed way; right down to an extended finish of bitter chai tea.
