Bright eyed and bushy tailed, the brewing team at Mirror Twin hits Lexington Pizza Week running with a no frills, any occasion lager-like beer but done the top fermenting way. The American blonde ale is a fair game beer for nearly any pizza on their menu.
Pale blond and with the tethers of a mild hazy, the light grain influence is evident to the eye. As a creamy froth blooms, it slowly falls, leaving a scent of earth, grain, honey and bread dough in its wake. Nuances of floral hops bring a fruity twinge of citrus before the cereal grain taste of barley and wheat align on the tongue with a honey sweet starchiness.
As the taste evens out on the middle palate, the cereal influence is bold with puffed wheat, hominy and honey smacks cereal. Hints of grapenuts keep the cereal trend going while a fairly light balance of floral hops turn mildly spicy with the faintness of lemongrass, lemon pepper and citrus peel.
Medium bodied, creamy and rich with persistent starch, having the taste seeming like cream ale. Its that cream of wheat, corn tortilla flavor that aligns the beer with pizza crust for a marriage made in Italian pie heaven. Its an easy, breezy, thirst quenching, highly quaffable ale that's easily forgettable but always friendly enough for having one more.
