Revisiting the tried and true recipe that put Mirror Twin on the craft beer map, yet another New England styled IPA rolls out of the brewery. This time with the help of Vic Secret, Azacca and Amarillo hops, the beer takes on a slightly new taste and texture.
Hello Haziness My Old Friend pours with the same matte golden appearance, moderately turbid and floating a soft creamy head. A pass of the nose reveals a familiar tropical and citrus medley with an herbal complement. But the deeper scent of stone fruit offers a variety heading into a cakey sweet taste of under baked pastries, cobbler and light cookie dough.
But the show isn't necessarily about the malt and the hops skirt over the lingering pastry taste and blossom with freshly juiced oranges, lemons and pink grapefruit. A light pineapple, mango and papaya character begins to emerge for added succulence and a near tangy wine character. Apricot and nectarine trail into a light and herbal late palate of gin, green tea and soft pine resins.
Medium bodied, the beer's modest carbonation has the ale feeling weighted on the finish, bringing the malts up to meet the intensity of the hops. Creamy, smooth and pleasantly grassy, the aftertaste is medium length and trails once again with dough and spruce.
