I love it when a beer plan comes together. Two of Kentucky's brewing teams bring their collaborative talents to the hazy New England style of IPA. Jarfly and Mirror Twin brewers choose tropical, candied and vinous hops for a taste that's worth the trip from Somerset to Lexington.
Pale and peachy gold, the matte finish on Making Flippy Floppy sits under a creamy but short froth that breaks apart halfway into the session. Tantalizing aromas of stone fruit, tropical fruit, citrus and vine swirl for a citronella infusion of tropical punch and sangria. Sweet on the tongue, a bready, pastry and slgihtly toasty taste comes in the form of poundcake and pastry dough.
Above the weight of doughy and cereal malts glides a host of fruity hop flavors. Peach, apricot and mango lead the way with a taste of branch ripe tangerine, lemon and white grape flavor lying underneath. Trending smoothly bitter, the herbal nature of sassafras, matcha tea and botanical gin add a spicy bite to take an edge off of the malt and to balance the fruit.
At the point where IPA, sangria and sherbet meet is where this ale finishes as a candied orange bitterness comes in the form of curacao liquor upon a shortcake character for an IPA that focuses on fruit flavor over dryness or cleanliness. Stronger than normal strength IPA but slightly under imperial strength, this full flavored, medium bodied beer is sure to win over hop heads from central to southern Kentucky.
