Ok, may a itsy bitsy bitter about the change of the new year, the Mirror Twin brewers start anew with their old hoppy and fruity ways by rolling out another stellar New England styled, citrus infused IPA, this time with the weapons of Azacca hop's stone fruit flavor, Vic Secret's tropical fruit nuances and Azacca's citrusy flare that's heightened by actual tangerine additions.
Much like the standard Hazy New Year, if you could burn orange juice, that's again the color and haze level with which Hazy New Year Tangerine strolls onto the bar. A tangerine fueled citronella aroma lead the way with a decidedly peachy and tropical fragrance. A rich malt palate makes a bold introduction with that familiar pastry dough, honey and fructose
And then the hops unfold on the middle palate once again leading with all-things-orange that spread into complementary flavors of peach, apricot, papaya and mango. As the flavors continue to trend decidedly citrusy, its a red grapefruit and tangerine character that extends into a late palate of fine teas, fragrant sassafras and verbena.
The bulk of sweetness hangs around and keeps the hop bitterness in check. Retaining a medium body, the richness in taste suggests something fuller like imperial status ale. A subtle spice of gin and citric acids are the only hints of alcohol and tartness that gives the ale a moderate semblance of dryness. A linger of candied oranges linger into a medium length aftertaste with hints of sassafras in tow.
