Amber or copper in color with off white head, more white than off though. Nose is sweet, almost light candy. Taste sweet and like the nose, candy like, also charred on the backend like a stout. Labeled a blonde stout.

Like a wolf in sheep's clothing, one turn of the glass reveals the character of stout. But with the appearance of blonde ale and your mind just might explode. Billed as a blonde stout, the taste of chocolate and coffee seem to drag the blonde ale further and further into the realm of dark and roasty.

Pouring a slightly more toasty character than true blond, the hazy beer rounds with a creamy, broken and short lived froth. As the juxtoposition of roast and savory rounds the nose, it's common nature to step back and take another look at the beer. Cereal and honey bridge the nose and flavor as the initial taste is much more of breadiness, light caramel and rich honey.

But as the ale ale nears middle palate, its sweetness begins to give way to the darker character of coffee and chocolate in a most nutty, toasty, roasty and charred kind of way. Milk chocolate and hints of vanilla bring a taste of white chocolate to reinforce the notion of darkness atop the base of sweetness and creaminess. Light in bitterness, a smoky balance comes in late reinforce a stout-like taste.

Never really convincing of a stout, the yin and yang beer brings a polarizing flavor spread to challenge the mind as much as the tastebuds. Medium bodied but seemingly both bolder and lighter, its fair that the two dynamics of the beer pull the palate in different directions throughout the session, through a finish of soil, sod and light char.
