There's something about all the developments of IPA in recent years to sometimes make us want things the way they used to be. When that happens, I call Mom. But when I explain that Mirror Twin's Citra, Mosaic and Azacca fueled IPA is smooth, aromatic and wonderful with flavor, all the says is for me to suck it up.
Peachy golden and cast in a pastel hue and a matte finish, the turbid but aromatic Haze Siri, Call Mom brings those hop perfumes to the forefront with rip roaring oranges, passionfruit, mango and apricot before rounding the nose with botanical gin, green tea, fresh grass clippings and chive. Its pastry sweetened taste is softly of cereal, agave, cookie dough and a pep of honey as an offset the the hoppy scent.
But that hop bouquet translates to a fruit filled middle palate that overshadows the malt with lime, tangerine, red grapefruit and mango from the Citra hops and then a greener taste of papaya, gooseberry and hemp from Mosaic variety. The slight stone fruits of apricot round out the taste before a peppery bitterness brings a medley of matcha, gin and fresh spruce to the later tastes.
Medium bodied and malty dry, the New England styled IPA lingers with cereal and sweetness to keep the flavors of hops elevated but limiting the dryness that would otherwise aid with drinkability and refreshment in texture. Its basically an herbal and alcoholic sherbet smoothie.
