Backing off of the bitterness doesn't mean that they're backing off of the hops. Chocked full of Amarillo, Calypso and Azacca hops, Mirror Twin's New England styled pale ale hits on all hoppy cylinders.
Pale gold and cast in a striking turbid haze, Speakeasy Drink Hazy teases the nose with a host of citrus, tropical fruit, orchard fruit and stone fruit for a scent that's redolent with sherbet and smoothie. A gentle and bready sweetness of honey, caramel and shortcake greets the early palate for a maltier upstart.
But as the hops wash the middle palate, its the fruit flavors that take over with orange and white grapefruit. A quick follow up of apricot, mango and nectarine suggest something of fruit rollups with the juiciness of pear and cider. Trending lightly herbal and sprucy, a taste of summer sun tea adds to a light bitterness and mildly spiced taste late on the palate.
Medium bodied and smooth from start to finish, the creamy ale keeps its form late in the session in full celebration of fruit flavor but at the sacrifice of dryness and refreshment. Think of it as a push-up with booze.
