Racing through craft beer week and setting their sights on the warmer weather of summer, Mirror Twin captures a taste of island leisure life even if we're stuck in Kentucky. At least the tastebuds can take a tropical vacation with their piña colada flavored, New England styled IPA.
Nearly turbid in a pastel golden orange glow, If You Like Piña colada, and Drinking Haze in the Rain pours with a rich and soapy lather. A moderately intense scent of citrus, tropical and pastry scents come with the added soft spice of vanilla for a subtle milky scent. Sweet on the tongue, those pastry-rich flavors of cereal, honey and light caramel come with an agave succulence to start the session of on the malty side of balance.
As the malts take a relaxed approach, the middle palate allows the hops to blossom into a citrusy taste of orange juice, grapefruit and light lime character. Pineapple overtones some swiftly with a slightly more elevated tropical flavor than the citrus. Suggestions of mango, apricot and banana follow as the rounded taste of piña colada floats gently above the moderately bitter, smooth hoppy finish.
Medium bodied and seemingly fuller from its vanilla cream linger, the hazy IPA finishes malty dry and with a slightness of hop spice and green tea. A linger of tropical fruit rinds add an impression of the beer's fruity cocktail intent.
