With the haze craze sweeping the U.S. beerscape, fatigue is setting in. So how do you stand out in a homogenous taste of cereal, floral and fruitiness? With simplicity. Mirror Twin leans heavily on Amarillo hops to give their eye opening IPA a unique identity.
So, With Haze Wide Open comes with the same silten turbid appearance and a creamy, fluid froth. A candied fruit aroma follows as the Amarillo hops have a big say in the beer's citrusy and lightly tropical scent. But the malts make a big impact with suggestions of honey, angel food cake and cereal that give the early palate a sweeter upstart.
The creamy sweetness of grains wrap around the hop flavor as the middle palate is nearly as juicy and radiant as the nose promised. Red grapefruit, orange, pineapple and nectarine come to mind as the fruity hops lay succulent track on the tastebuds. Trending herbal, spicy and moderately resinous, the hop balance does little more than just balance the lingering sweetness.
Medium bodied, creamy and drying subtly on the late palate, the beer's lasting tastes are those of muddled tropical fruit rinds and a settling down of the candied fruit flavors. Favoring a taste of cedar, sassafras and peppery pine, a spicy aftertaste is exactly what this malty IPA needed.
