Taking the New England styled IPA to the sour side, the brewers at Mirror Twin satisfy the summer thirst with something hoppy and something tart. Laced with vanilla, pineapple and lactose and those memories of childhood sour candies are sure to arise.
Should Have Been There on a Sunday Morning Hazing My Head pours a lemony, foggy appearance with an initial frothy cap that eventually succumbs to the acidity. A brisk aroma of sour pineapple, citrus, herbal notes and an overall candied scent hover about the nose before its taste of taffy, lychee and the lightness of angel food cake meet the tongue.
But anything resembling sweetness is a short memory as the sourness washes the middle palate with crabapple, white wine, gooseberry, passionfruit and kiwi nuances from the lactic sourness within. That overcast of pineapple keeps things decidedly tropical before delving into a smooth and slightly bitter finish of botanical gin and white teas.
Light in body, the acidity chews into the cereal grains for a crisp, highly refreshing late palate for a great sense of refreshment and drinkability. A quick aftertaste keeps the beer flowing, well... like beer.
