Just in time for the dog days of late summer, the always sunny character of German hefeweizen finds its way into the rolling hills of Kentucky, weaving its fruity, spicy and soft complexities into the clover field of honey and now... coconuts.
This May Be Coconuts comes with that expected hazy gold color and crowned with a rich light creamy white froth. Rich tropical aromas hinge on citrus, tropical, orchard fruit, and a light tingle of vanilla spice. Floral honey decorates the scent with its earthy sweetness and serves as a cereal and tropical perfume. Malty, creamy and cream soda-like, the early flavors are of cookie dough, fresh bread and angel food cake loom.
As the flavors roll along the middle palate, the fruit flavors lay tracks of strong piƱa colada, bananas foster followed by lightness of apple, lemon and honeydew. Sweetness holds firm and gives the fruit impressions a ripe, bursting and radiant taste. A balance of clove, white pepper, coconut and vanilla only adds to the fruity sweetness but without rivaling for attention.
Persistent honey and lactose keeps the session sweet and slightly more weighted than normal. But its floral finish is highlighted by brightness of cream forward cocktail as a smooth aftertaste of wheat and honey linger briefly afterwards.
