To kick off Hazapolooza 2019, Mirror Twin Brewing unleashes a cornucopia of tropical fruits that are fueled by Mandarin Bavaria, Mosaic and Citra hops for a standard strength, New England styled IPA that's the calling card for hop heads near and far.
And this Hazeucopia starts off with a moderately hazy orange golden hue, and crowned with a soft and short froth that draws in the senses with a bevy of citrus, tropical, melon and herbal fragrances. Gentle on the tongue, its malty upstart is framed by caramel, honey and toasted shortcake to start.
As the malts slowly fade on the middle palate, the hops billow into a fruit punch medley of flavors. Orange, red grapefruit and lime leads seamlessly into a mango, papaya and pineapple flavor to complete the character of alcoholic sherbet. Trending moderately bitter, its smooth hop closure develops a spicy twinge of chive, matcha tea, gin-like botanicals and a fresh sprucy and cedar-like bitterness to close.
Medium bodied and malty dry through and through, the beer shares a sensibility of more Midweastern type flavors and feels while also showing the ripe and juicy potential in the freshness of Hazy IPA. A medium long aftertaste of gin spice and freshly shaved woods extend just beyond the reach of muddled fruit peels.
