Like mad scientists in the laboratory, Mirror Twin likens themselves the same when getting their hands on the untested variety of hops with only the nomenclature of HBC 431 and a desire to taste 'what If'.
So their Hazebeeriment 431 kicks off with a tangy succulents that leans on the character of under ripened berries, orchard fruit and tropical flavors as the hazy golden beer graces the nose. Pastry sweet with pie crust, agave and faint caramel, a support of cereal malts gloss the tongue first.
But that quick follow up of hops deliver an even keel balance of nectarine, orange and mango coated with the succulence of cranberry and under ripened raspberry before a gentle pineapple sweetness gives us a clear view of what this new and experimental hop provides. Smooth in bitterness, a late bite of botanical grasses, green tea, gin-like botanicals and a faint wine-like spice offsets the linger of sweetness without interfering with the hop flavor.
Medium bodied and more drinkable than an imperial status ale should, the cereal flavors and textures linger medium long on the after palate with the remnants of mulled fruit peels resonating on the senses.
