Outstanding 2 years later. Gorgeous lacing, sticky mouthfeel. Everything you’d want in a bourbon barrel aged Russian stout!

Like a nuclear reactor that just went off on the tongue, the standard Imperial Stout of Mirror Twin finds itself engulfed by bourbon. But not just any bourbon- the barrels that first housed the always popular Knob Creek Kentucky whisky.

So to kick off their third year anniversary, Knob Creek Barrel Aged Chernobly soothes the senses with a caramelized, coconut, vanilla soaked and coat. Hovering just above its inky black austere swoons the unmistakable aroma of toasted oak, soft whisky spice, and an abundance of those coconut, caramel and vanilla promisstes, along with sweetened coffee, cocoa and light vinous scents of the stout buried underneath the barrel character. Sweet with molasses, latte and gently burnt cream, the malt influences are strong on the early palate.

As the sweetness stretches across the middle palate, its coat is thick, rich and satisfying. Carrying with it the toasted fruits of grape, cherry and redcurrant, a vinous port and sherry character pulls from the oaken bourbon flavors and gives a gentle spice, and light tangy balance to the linger of brown sugar, caramel and toffee malts that develop late. A coffee-like balance of roast, toast and char extends into a mildly peppery palate of kahlua and campfire.

Warming, pleasantly numbing and densely packed onthe tongue, the beer's soothing booze and softer tannins dry the devilishly dark ale to an mild cloying sense of drinkability. Full, lavish and truly decadent, the beer captures the sweeter tone of Knob Creek's whisky remarkably well, satisfying the tastebuds with a comforting booziness that lingers long, confident and regal in aftertaste.
