Never ones to deify classic beer styles or candy bars, the brewers of Mirror Twin have no problem mincing the two into a candied beer concoction to satisfy the sweet tooth and negate the need for dessert.
With the use of (apparently) eighty-two Little Debbie Nutty Bars, 82 Nutty Bars Walk Into A Bar pours with a predictable chocolate brown color and is largely opaque. Aromas of peanut butter, chocolate and cream waft onto the nose with any toasted or caramelized malts playing in a supporting roll. Sweet on the tongue, a milk chocolate, vanilla and heavy cream sweetness coats the tongue like a malted milkshake.
Nutty, toasty and coffee-like, the middle palate patiently drifts away from its cloyingly sweet taste and rolls in a more traditional brand of stout. The bitterness of hops play into a toasted coffee taste late on the palate with hints of woodsiness and cocoa. Lactose sugars apply their own aspartame bite that pulls from the vanilla and creates a coffee bitterness as well.
Full bodied, succulent and savory, the sweet tooth is definitely satisfied as the peanut butter and chocolate flavors resonate loudly on the finish and into a malty-sweet aftertaste of peanut butter, mocha latte.
