Part technicians, part mad scientists, Mirror Twin brewers likens themselves to basic wizardry when getting their hands on the untested variety of hops with only the nomenclature of HBC 586 and a desire to taste "why not".
So their Hazebeeriment 586 kicks off with a tangy succulents that leans on the character of ripe tropical fruit, citrus and supporting scents of orchard fruit as the hazy golden, perfumy beer passes by the nose. Pastry sweet with pie crust, light praline and a hint of caramel, a support of cereal malts greet the early palate.
But that quick follow up of hops deliver an even keel balance of mango, orange and peach coated with the succulence of pink grapefruit, passionfruit and papaya just before a guava sweetness gives us a clear view of what this new and experimental hop provides. Smooth in bitterness, a soft bite of botanical herbs, sun tea, gin spice and a faint apple-like tanginess offsets the linger of sweetness without interfering with the its taste
Medium bodied and more reasonably drinkable for a cereal laden IPA, the grains and creamy textures linger gently on the tongue with the remnants of mango peels resonating pleasantly afterwards.
