Bogged down in the dog days of summer, there's a lot of moments for heat. But those hot spells are met with a tangerine wheat beer balanced with vanilla and lactose thanks to Mirror Twin Brewing.
Pouring an expected cloudy golden orange color, the heady In the Wheat of the Moment soon entices the nose with a mix of cereal, dough, citrus, stone fruit, tropical fruit and mild peppery spice. Sweeter on the tongue, a richer pastry breadiness ensues and is decorated with honeysuckle and light cake batter.
The creamy wheat character lessens somewhat on the middle palate, allowing the tangerine to blossom. A bold orange character is rich with fruit to emulate the character of peach, mango and pineapple. Woven together with vanilla and lactose, the creamed candy character allows the fruit to seem plump, rich and rife. A light spice of white pepper, mint and grassy parsley comes in late for a quick sense of balance and drinkability.
Medium bodied and quite summer in nature, the creamy upstart of the beer trends slightly drying but refreshing, right into a mild evaporative cooling of mint and vanilla with a soft afterglow of creamsickle and herb.
